His continuous research work in cross-scale modeling of gas-solid reacting flow and non-intrusive measurement of multiphase flow, forms a solid basis for understanding the processes of coal pyrolysis in thermal plasma and petroleum refining in novel downer reactors. His innovative efforts with partners in the field of Ultra-short Contact Multiphase Flow Reactors were highly recognized by peers, and the team won the Award for Honorable Mention Technical Paper by the 28th Annual International Pittsburgh Coal Conference (September 2011) and the first prize of Natural Science Award by Ministry of Education (PR China, January 2014). He and Prof. Yi Cheng were invited to contribute a book chapter for “Measurement Techniques and Modeling Method of Multiphase Flow” published by Chemical Industry Press in 2016 and another one for “Essentials of Fluidization Technology” published by Wiley-VCH in 2020.

During 2010-2017, he worked for National Institute of Clean-and-Low-Carbon Energy (NICE) in Beijing, China, as the team leader of Coal Refining Reactor Development and Demonstration, and supported to successfully deliver two commercial Process Design Packages on Low Rank Coal Refining technologies. He won two times of Special Recognition Award (2010 & 2012) issued by NICE CEO. He and the team won the First Prize of Outstanding Sci & Tech Paper Award issued by Shenhua Group (2016), Bravo Award-Gold of NICE (2016), and Outstanding Innovation Team Award issued by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC, 2017).

His recent researches in mineral liberation, ultrafine grinding, particle surface modification and separation, and pseudo liquid fuel preparation draws much attention from the industry. Continuous runs have been performed at 10 kg/h and 100 kg/h lab test units and the technology has been promoted to industrial demostration.
