Associate Professor Department of Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering

Professor Wang received the B.Sc. degree in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics in 2007, and received the Ph.D. degree in Fluid Mechanics in 2012, both from the College of Engineering, Peking University. From 2012 to 2013, he was a Postdoctoral Research Associate (also called Peiyuan Scholar) in the Center for Applied Physics and Technology (CAPT) at Peking University. Between 2013 and 2016 he was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Princeton University and Nagoya Institute of Technology. In 2016, he was Research Associate Professor of Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering Department at SUSTech and was Associate Professor in 2018.

Research Interests: Theory and simulation of turbulence, flow instability and computational fluid dynamics.

Research

(1) developed a modal decomposition method to discover the multi-scale properties of solenoidal, dilatational and thermodynamic processes in compressible turbulence, including: spectra of velocity and thermodynamic quantities, multi-scale transport of kinetic energy and thermodynamic quantities, small-scale structures, interactions between shocks and vortices, etc.

(2) developed a thermodynamic method applied to study the subcritical instability of Poiseuille flow, determined the critical Reynolds number where nonlinear instability is triggered, computed free energy, action function and thermodynamic relation of the flow system.

(3) developed advanced subgrid-scale (SGS) models based on machine learning for large eddy simulation(LES) of turbulence, which are much more accurate than traditional LES in both priori and posteriori tests.
