Dr. Jianchun Wang received the B.Sc. degree in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics in 2007, and received the Ph.D. degree in Fluid Mechanics in 2012, both from the College of Engineering, Peking University. From 2012 to 2013, he was a Peiyuan scholar in the Center for Applied Physics and Technology (CAPT) at Peking University. Between 2013 and 2016 he was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Princeton University and Nagoya Institute of Technology. In 2016, he was assistant professor in Department of Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering at SUSTech, and became associate professor in 2018.

Research

(1) studied multi-process and multi-scale properties of compressible turbulence, including: spectra of velocity and thermodynamic quantities, multi-scale transport of kinetic energy and thermodynamic quantities, small-scale structures, interactions between shocks and vortices, etc.

 

(2) developed advanced subgrid-scale (SGS) models for large eddy simulation (LES) of turbulence, based on multi-scale properties of turbulence and machine learning, which are much more accurate than traditional LES in both priori and posteriori tests.

 

(3) developed a thermodynamic method for studying the subcritical instability of Poiseuille flow; determined the critical Reynolds number where nonlinear instability is triggered; computed free energy, action function and thermodynamic relation of the flow system.
