Vikrant Gupta

Research Assistant Professor Department of Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering

I am a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering at the Southern University of Science & Technology, Shenzhen, China. I received my PhD from the University of Cambridge, and master and bachelor degrees in Aeronautical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Madras. I was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Cambridge, where I also held a knowledge transfer research fellowship to work with a startup (Ocean Array Systems) in marine energy.

Personal Profile


In my research I apply tools from stability analysis, nonlinear dynamics, system identification and hydraulics on a variety of flows. The main application of my research focuses on optimisation of marine and wind energy, identification of flow structures, and prediction of thermoacoustic instabilities in gas-turbine engines.

Founded in December 2015, the Department of Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) is one of departments in the College of Engineering. It aims to establish a world-leading department in mechanics and aerospace engineering, covering various research areas such as fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, thermodynamics, aeroacoustics, mechanics, combustion, material, and system control.
