Assistant Professor Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering

Liang Guo received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, from Tsinghua University in 2009. He conducted graduate research on nanoscale heat transfer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Purdue University. His supervisor was Xianfan Xu, one of the outstanding alumni of the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). His projects included heat transfer across metal-dielectric interfaces, wavelength tuning effect in time-domain thermoreflectance for measuring thermal properties, and phonon dynamics in thermoelectric materials. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in September 2014. From October 2014 to July 2017, as a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Professor Graham Fleming, the member of the National Academy of Sciences, USA, he utilized femtosecond two-dimensional electronic spectroscopy (2DES) to study energy transfer in novel two-dimensional semiconductors in chemistry, University of California, Berkeley. His project was exciton dynamics in monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs). He published more than 20 SCI-listed articles in world-renowned journals, including Nature Physics, Physical Review B, Applied Physics Letters, ACS Photonics, etc.

He joined the Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering at Southern University of Science and Technology in January 2018. He is focusing on nanoscale energy conversion and transfer, femtosecond laser manufacture, and energetic particles dynamics based on ultrafast spectroscopy. He teaches "Energy Engineering Fundamentals" and "Advanced Laser Processing and Inspection Technology" He manages 2 grants from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 1 grant from the Natural Science Foundation of Guangdong Province, 1 grant from the Characteristic Innovation Project of the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, 1 grant from University Consistent Support Program of Shenzhen Natural Science Foundation, 1 grant from the Shenzhen Science and Technology Program, and he also receives (Level C) high-caliber personnel financial support from Shenzhen Science and Technology Program.

◆The group welcomes postdoctoral researchers and research assistants. We also actively recruit PhDs, masters, and undergraduates with intense research interests.
◆The research in this group is interdisciplinary and we are open to students and scholars with interest in mechanical engineering (including energy engineering, thermal engineering, and precision instruments),  optics,  and material chemistry.
  
Experimental Conditions of Our Group:
Our Group currently has a clean laboratory of 50 square meters, equipped with a femtosecond spectroscopy experimental system, a laser processing experimental system, a laser imaging system, etc. The main equipment includes Femtosecond Laser, Pulse Shaper, Optical Parametric Amplifier, Cooling Cavity, Spectrometer, Ultraviolet Nanosecond Laser, Continuous laser, etc. The existing experimental equipment of Our group can meet the relevant experimental needs of femtosecond spectroscopy and laser manufacture.

Post Treatments:

Postdoctoral appointment period is two years
Postdoctoral annual salary is 335,000 yuan, including Guangdong subsidies of 150,000 RMB (before tax) and Shenzhen living subsidies of 60,000 RMB (after tax), and based on the relevant regulations of Shenzhen to participate in social insurance and housing provident fund. Postdoctoral welfare funds shall be paid according to the standards of faculty and staff in posts of the university.
Excellent candidates can apply for excellent postdoctoral positions with an annual salary of RMB 415,000. (including subsidies from Guangdong and Shenzhen).

Post Requirements:

Applicants should obtain or will obtain a doctorate degree in mechanics (including energy, heat, precision instrument), optics,  and material chemistry., etc.;
Applicants should have a solid mathematical foundation and enthusiasm for scientific research, and he/she should also be able to think independently with an innovative spirit and a down-to-earth style of work.
Those with experience in femtosecond spectroscopy or laser processing are preferred.

Post Responsibilities 

Participate in team-building and management;
Participate in scientific research funding applications and rely on the team to apply for scientific research projects at the national, provincial and municipal levels (postdoctoral science fund, National Natural Science Foundation of China Youth Project, etc.);
Conduct research on topics relatively independently and publish high-level academic papers
