Chair Professor Department of Ocean Science and Engineering
Jian-Fei (Jianfei) Chen, Chair Professor of Department of Ocean Science and Engineering at Southern University of Science and Technology. He has studied and taught at internationally renowned universities for nearly 30 years in the UK, including Queen's University Belfast as Professor of Structural and Civil Engineering from 2013 to 2019 and The University of Edinburgh as a Reader from 2006 to 2013. He served as the fourth President of the International Institute for FRP in Construction (IIFC) from 2014 to 2018. Professor Chen co-authored the book “FRP-strengthened RC structure”, which has been translated into Chinese, Korean, and Persian. He has authored or co-authored over 300 publications. His work has been widely cited, and adopted by many international standards and design guidelines. He is one of the founders of the theory of FRP-strengthened concrete structures. According to an Elsevier research conducted for use for Academic Ranking of World Universities, he was one of the 150 Most Cited Researchers worldwide in Civil Engineering in 2016. He received many prizes such as the Howard Medal from the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).
