Dr. Yu received his bachelor and master degrees in geophysics from Peking University in 2007 and 2010, respectively. He earned his PhD degree in geophysics from MIT in 2016. Between 2016 and 2018, he was a postdoctoral researcher in the Caltech Seismological Laboratory. In early 2019, he joined the Department of Earth and Space Sciences at Southern University of Science and Technology as an Associate Professor. Dr. Yu’s main research interests include observational seismology, seismic imaging of Earth’s internal structures and earthquake source characterization. He has published more than 30 papers in journals such as Nature, Nature Communication, Science Advances, Nature Reviews Earth & Environment, EPSL, GRL, JGR, GJI, SRL, BSSA etc. Currently, he serves as an Associate Editor for the AGU journal Geochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems (G-Cubed) and board members of several geophysical and seismological specialized committees.

Research Assistant Professors Position
Recruitment requirements
Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in the field of solid geophysics (seismology).
Postdoctoral work experience or higher level scientific research work for at least 2 years in universities or research institutions at home and abroad.
Have published more than 2 papers as the first author in the mainstream SCI journals in the relevant fields in the past 5 years.
Be able to carry out scientific research work in the relevant research direction of the subject group.

Job Responsibilities
To work with the group leader to develop research plans, carry out research work relatively independently and publish high-level academic papers.
Assist in the construction and management of the subject group, including participating in the subject group projects, assisting in applying for funding, mentoring students, etc..
Treatment during the appointment
Basic treatment (two-year postdoctoral appointment)
The postdoctoral salary is about ¥335,000 per year, including Guangdong Province subsidy of ¥150,000 (before tax) and Shenzhen living allowance of ¥60,000 (after tax), and participation in social insurance and housing provident fund according to relevant regulations of Shenzhen. Post-doctoral welfare fees are paid with reference to the standard of the teaching staff in the school posts.
Particularly outstanding candidates can apply for the President's Postdoctoral Excellence, with an annual salary of up to ¥415,000. (including Guangdong Province and Shenzhen subsidies)

The group provides excellent working environment and opportunities for domestic and foreign cooperation and exchange, and the postdoc enjoys a total of ¥50,000 academic exchange funding for two years during his stay.
The group provides sufficient scientific research support and assists postdocs to apply for the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and research projects at all levels in Guangdong Province and Shenzhen.
The group can assist eligible postdocs to apply for the "Guangdong Overseas Young Postdocs Introduction Program". In other words, if a postdoctoral fellow has obtained a doctoral degree from a university ranked in the top 200 universities in the world (excluding the territory, the ranking is based on Times, USNEWS, QS and Shanghai Jiao Tong University's World University Ranking in the previous year), and is engaged in postdoctoral research in a postdoctoral station in Guangdong Province, and has committed to stay in the station for more than 2 years, the provincial government will give each postdoctoral fellow a living allowance of ¥ 600,000 after the successful application. For those postdocs who have received funding from this program, signed a work agreement or labor contract with an employer in Guangdong Province and committed to work in Guangdong for more than 3 years, the provincial government will give each postdoc a housing subsidy of ¥400,000.
Postdocs who choose to stay in Shenzhen for scientific research work and sign labor (employment) contracts with enterprises and institutions in the city for more than 3 years can apply for the Shenzhen Postdoctoral Research Grant for Staying in Shenzhen. The Shenzhen Municipal Government gives each person an annual research grant of ¥100,000 for a total of 3 years.
For postdocs who meet the requirements of the latest policy related to "Rental and Living Allowance for Newly-Introduced Talents in Shenzhen", after settling in Shenzhen, they can assist in applying for a one-time rental and living allowance of ¥30,000 in Shenzhen (tax-free, independent online application).
According to their own conditions, post-docs who are in or out of station and stay in Shenzhen can apply for "Shenzhen Peacock Plan C talents" or "Shenzhen reserve-level talents" and enjoy a 5-year 1.6 million incentive allowance (tax-free) (subject to the latest requirements for declaration of talents in Shenzhen).

Master's degree or above in earth science, mechanics, physics, computer science or other related majors, strong sense of responsibility and teamwork, good mathematical and scientific foundation and computer programming skills, good reading and writing skills in Chinese and English. Preference will be given to those with professional background in solid geophysics and seismology.
Job Responsibilities
Carrying out relevant scientific research under the guidance of the subject supervisor.
Assist in the construction of the seismic observation laboratory.
Complete other related work of the subject group.
