Dr. Haiyun Shi currently holds the position of Associate Professor (Tenured) in School of Environmental Science & Engineering at Southern University of Science and Technology, Shenzhen, China. He got his Ph.D. degree at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. He worked previously as a Postdoctoral Fellow/Senior Research Assistant at The University of Hong Kong, and won the Hong Kong Scholars Award in 2014. He won the Da Yu Award for Water Science and Technology (1^st grade award) in 2022. He was in the list of World's Top 2% Scientists (Stanford/Elsevier, from 2024) and Highly Ranked Scholars (0.05%) - Prior 5 Years (ScholarGPS, 2025). His research interests include digital watershed, hydroinformatics, climate change, hydrological extremes (floods and droughts), and sustainable development. He has been the PI/Co-PI of more than 10 research projects. He has published over 90 journal papers (over 60 papers as the first author or corresponding author) in the field of hydrology and water resources. He has published 1 book and 4 book chapters. He has obtained 3 provincial-level scientific and technological achievements. He has been invited as the reviewer of over 30 international journals (e.g., Nature, Nature Food, Nature Communications, Geophysical Research Letters, Journal of Hydrology, and Water Resources Research) and the Expert Reviewer of the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (Working Group II). He has served as the Associate Editor (Journal of Hydrology, Vadose Zone Journal) or Editorial Board Member of 7 journals (Geoscience Letters, Hydroecology and Engineering, PLOS Climate, Water Resources Protection, Journal of Water Resources Research, Pearl River, Geological Survey of China) and Guest Editor of 6 international journals. He has served as the main convener of 2 sessions of Hydrological Sciences in AOGS (Asia Oceania Geosciences Society) annual meeting and the main convener of 1 session of Hydrology in AGU (American Geophysical Union) Fall meeting.
