Dr. Chongxuan Liu is a Chair Professor in biogeochemistry at Southern University of Science and Technology. Prof. received his Ph.D degree in Environmental Engineering from the Johns Hopkins University. His research area is in the biogeochemistry in water and soil environments, focusing on the transformation, degradation and transport of contaminants in groundwater; multi-scale investigation of flow, transport, and scaling of geochemical and biogeochemical reactions in heterogeneous porous media; and development of microbially based technologies for remediating and immobilizing contaminants, and synthesis of engineered materials for extracting heavy metals and radionuclides from wastewater. His current research interests include the biogeochemistry of C, N and contaminants in groundwater and surface water exchange zones and development of biotechnologies for wastewater treatment. He is the PI or Co-PI for over 20 projects, and authored and co-authored over 130 peer-reviewed articles with a total citation of over 4800 and H factor 41. He was named the fellow of Geological Society of America (GSA) in 2011, and the Scholar of China Global Talent program in 2014.
