Professors from the Department of Oceanography participated in the 2016 Fall Meeting of the American Geophysical Society (AGU)

The annual meeting of AGU in Autumn was held in San Francisco, USA on December 12-16, 2016. The annual meeting of AGU is one of the largest academic meetings all over the world. This year, more than 24,000 scientists from all over the world gathered in San Francisco, USA to jointly exchange the latest development of earth and space science and discuss the development direction in the future. Academician Xiaofei CHEN, dean Yongshun CHEN, professor Ting YANG and assistant professor Youmin ZHOU attended this meeting.

Academician Xiaofei CHEN and his several students presented their latest research achievements in the seismology field; professor Yongshun CHEN delivered an oral report with the title of “A Complete Tomography of the Earth’s Interior with Floating Seismometers in the Oceans: the Earthscope-Oceans” to call for constructing an Earthscope-Oceans in the oceans, so as to enhance our cognitive level of the earth’s interior structure and ability to monitor the micro-earthquake in the ocean. Professor Ting YANG presented the lithosphere structure of the residual ocean ridge in South China Sea obtained with OBS array materials in his oral report, which has significance for its magmation mechanism and seamount dive. Assistant professor Youmin ZHOU posted a poster with the title of “Microstructural and Magnetic Investigations of Pseudotachylyte and Ultracataclasite in the Hoping River, Tananao Complex, Eastern Taiwan”, which introduced the fault pseudotachylite found in the metamorphic granitic body outcrop in Hualien and Pingxi. In order to understand the melting process and formation mechanism of the pseudotachylite during earthquake, the research is conducted with the lithochemistry analysis, microstructure research and magnetism measurement to provide the palaeo-earthquake information records, so as to provide information for the tectonic change of the ridgy orogeny in early stage in Taiwan.%e5%9b%be%e7%89%871
