ZHAO Yusheng

Dr. Yusheng Zhao is a Chair Professor in the Department of Physics and Associate Vice President of Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). He also serves as the Dean of SUSTech Academy for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies and the Director of SUSTech’s Office of Research. Prof. Zhao has been actively working in the fields of high-pressure science, clathrates, nano mechanics, and energy/environmental materials. He has published over 260 scientific papers and overall been cited more than 12000 times.

Dr. Zhao earned his B.S from Peking University and Ph.D from Stony Brook University. While serving as a senior scientist and a team leader at Los Alamos National Laboratory, he pioneered in high-pressure neutron science and experimentation during his 18-year tenure. Dr. Zhao was appointed as the Executive Director of High Pressure Science and Engineering Center (a DOE/NNSA Center of Excellence) at University of Nevada Las Vegas in 2010. He became a board member of the Material Research Society (MRS) in January 2019.
