Research Content

  1. Seismic characteristics of the eastern North American crust with Ps converted waves, addressing following questions: 1) Which geologically-defined tectonic boundaries can be correlated with subsurface interfaces in three-dimensional seismic models? 2)What constraints can seismic data place on the timing and history of the geologically-defined boundaries?
  2. Crustal and upper mantle structure across the eastern North American margin from full-wave ambient noise tomography, focusing on following questions: 1) How does the velocity structure within lithosphere vary from ocean to continent beneath the eastern North America margin? 2) How does the lithospheric structure interact with magmatism and ancient rifting?
  3. High-resolution crustal and upper mantle structure in the Cascadia subduction zone from ocean to continent, focusing on following questions: 1) How do the geometry and properties of the subducting and overriding 2) How is the lithosphere deformed and what is the role of subduction in lithosphere deformation?
