Research Assistant Professor Department of Biomedical Engineering
Yingcan Zhao joined Department of Biomedical Engineering, Southern University of Science and Technology as a research assistant professor since January 2019. The main research directions are two-dimensional nanomaterials synthesis and their biomedical applications. Dr. Zhao obtained her bachelor’s degree from Shandong University in 2012 and then pursued her Ph. D. degree from Purdue University at West Lafayette. She mainly focused on the synthesis of carbonaceous nanomaterials (i.e. graphene oxide, fullerenes) and studied the environmental chemistry of these nanomaterials in the aquatic environment. She won the Joseph P. Chu Fellowship Award, Ron Wukasch Environmental Engineering Scholarship and Pai Tao Yeh Fellowship (twice) during her Ph.D. study. Later, she enrolled at Tsinghua-Berkeley Shenzhen Institute as a postdoc and did her postdoctoral study in Department of Civil and Environmental engineering at University of California, Berkeley from 2017 to 2018. She mainly focused on the antibacterial applications of MoS2 nanosheets during her postdoctoral study.
