Academician & Distinguished Visiting Professor Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering

YAO Jianquan was born in Shanghai in 1939. He is the professor of College of Precision Instruments and Opto-Electronics Engineering at Tianjin University. He was elected as the academician of the Chinese Academy of Science. Prof.Yao has taken up various important academic leadership roles, such as council member of The Chinese Optical Society(COS),deputy director of laser division of COS, deputy director of Tianjin Laser Society, deputy director Institute of Modern Optical Instruments at Tianjin University, member of The Optical Society of America, member of SPIE, visiting fellow of Center for Laser at University of Southern California. He was also nominated as the member of the national committee of CPPCC, member of the 8th China Association for Promoting Democracy, member of the Standing Committee of 9th and 10th China Association for Promoting Democracy, vice chairman of 10th CPPCC in Tianjin and chairman of 10th Tianjin Municipal Committee for Promoting Democracy.

Research

Prof.YAO Jianquan’s main research interest is laser and nonlinear optical frequency conversion technology and he developed the theory of high power frequency doubling laser. His calculation of optimum phase match parameters for biaxial crystal is named as YAO Technology and Yao Methodology and are used widely in the international academic field. For new laser application and technology, he developed high efficiency solid-state laser, tunable laser, high power frequency doubling laser all of which achieved world advanced level.
