Research

Research Interests: The hydraulic characteristics of submarine canyon turbidity current, the principle of sediment transport mode, the control factors, the effect of environment and disaster. Basic theoretical research on marine sedimentation dynamics and its application in marine environmental monitoring, coastal/seabed engineering protection and marine geological disaster protection;

Main research focus is Source-to-sink transport across continental margins: I work with research teams consisting of scientists from China, US, and UK (oceanographers, geologists, geophysicists, engineers) to conduct studies whose ultimate goals are to better understand the sources, processes, and fates of sediments/pollutants transported in a source-to-sink path that covers a spectrum of diverse environments: rivers, estuaries, continental shelves, and submarine canyons; and to synthesize the regional coastal changes attributed to these input and other environmental forcing. These collaborative efforts require the use of extensive field programs, advanced data analyses, and state-of-the-art numerical modeling.

Teaching

Main courses: Marine sedimentology, principles of coastal geology and geomorphology
