Dr. Liu's research interests are in computational mechanics, especially the boundary element method and its fast solution methods, with applications in modeling composite materials, fracture, fatigue, structural dynamics and acoustics. Dr. Liu has authored/co-authored three books and more than 100 research papers in technical journals and conference proceedings. His book Fast Multipole Boundary Element Method was published by Cambridge University Press in 2009 and has been well received by the research community. Based on Google Scholar, Dr. Liu's work have been cited over 5000 times, with an h-index of 42. Dr. Liu is a fellow of ASME.

Personal Profile

Dr. Yijun Liu obtained his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Northwestern Polytechnical University in 1982 and 1984, respectively, and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1992. He conducted post-doctoral research at Iowa State University for two years, and then worked in industries (including Ford Motor Company) as a CAE engineer for two years. Dr. Liu was on the faculty of the University of Cincinnati since 1996, as assistant, associate and full professor. Dr. Liu's research interests are in computational mechanics, especially the boundary element method and its fast solution methods, with applications in modeling composite materials, fracture, fatigue, structural dynamics and acoustics. Dr. Liu has authored three books and published more than 100 research papers in technical journals and conference proceedings. Computational mechanics, boundary element method (BEM) and other numerical methods, especially fast solution methods for the BEM in solving large-scale engineering problems.

Modeling of large-scale fracture mechanics and acoustic wave problems using the fast BEM.

Large-scale, multi-scale and multi-physics modeling and simulation of advanced composites, nanomaterials, biomaterials and micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS).

CAE software development (FastBEM software).
