Research Associate Professor School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Dr. Guo is a research associate professor of the College of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Southern University of Science and Technology. He also serves as the Vice President of Apostle Inc. and SUSTech-Apostle Limited. Dr. Guo obtained his bachelor degree from Chiba Institute of Technology, master degrees from Tokyo Institute of Technology and Max-Planck Institute for Informatics, and doctor degree in Computer Science from Duke University. During 2012-2016, he worked in Gilead Sciences, a biotechnology company located in Silicon Valley, as research scientist and group lead. During this period, he led and participated genomics research projects for more than 10 clinical trials, including serving as clinical genomics project lead for the world's leading anti-hepatitis C drug Sofosbuvir (Sovaldi). He co-founded Apostle in 2017 in Silicon Valley and co-founded SUStech-Apostle Limited in 2018 in Shenzhen.

Dr. Guo Xin has more than 10 years of RnD experience in high performance computing, artificial intelligence and bioinformatics. He published many first-author papers in peer-review journals (e.g., PNAS, Bioinformatics) and academic conferences.

My research interest is the development of new algorithms in artificial intelligence and on the application of these methods in computational genomics, visualization of high-dimensional genomic big data, and development of bioinformatics tools. In the area of computational algorithms, I have developed DOMAIN, a protein-protein interaction network aligner to detect functional-related modules across species, and DECOVE, a wavelet-based deconvolution algorithm to deconvolve gene-expression time-series data. In the area of big data visualization and bioinformatics tool development, I have published g3viz, a R package to visualize cancer genomic mutation data, which has over 300 downloads monthly.
