Associate Professor School of Medicine
Guoan Chen, M.D., Ph.D., Associate Professor in the School of Medicine, Southern University of Science and Technology. Dr. Chen received his medical degree from Xi'an Jiaotong University in Xi’an, China in 1986 and finished his M.S. program in Pulmonary Medicine in Xi’an Jiaotong University in 1992. He received his Ph.D. in oncology from Peking Union Medical College in 1999. In 2000, he joined Professor David G. Beer’s Tumor Biology Laboratory as a Research Fellow and completed his post-doctoral training in tumor molecular biology at the University of Michigan and was promoted to the faculty as Research Investigator at the University of Michigan Medical School in 2004. He was promoted to Research Assistant Professor in 2010, and Associate Research Scientist in 2017. Dr. Chen’s research interests are focused within the fields of genomics, proteomics, and bioinformatics in lung cancer. He utilizes the state of the art molecular technologies and approaches, including gene expression microarray, SNP array, miRNA array and RNA deep sequencing, etc. to identify molecular changes for patient survival, the early diagnosis and the molecular mechanism in lung cancer progression. He currently worked on micro-RNAs, long non-coding RNAs, and circRNAs for lung cancer diagnosis and prognosis, as well as the functional, mechanistic and therapeutic application of these molecules in lung cancer.

Lung cancer indicators improve under SUSTech research
The role of circular RNAs (circRNAs) in tumors is becoming increasingly apparent. Recently, circHIPK3, one circular RNA of HIPK3 gene has been found to play an important role in tumor growth and progression, but its role in lung cancer has not been elucidated. Late in June, a research group co-chaired by Associate Professor Chen Guoan […]
