He is a member of the Department of Geosciences and Resources and Environment of the Ministry of Education, a visiting professor at Oxford University, the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Applied Basic and Engineering Sciences, and a member of the editorial board of more than 10 domestic and foreign magazines. He has presided over the National Natural Science Foundation's Outstanding Young and Middle-Aged Talents Fund Project (1994), the National Outstanding Youth Fund Project (1996), the EU Science and Technology Cooperation Project (1996~2000), the National Natural Science Foundation of China (1997~2001), and the Canadian CIDA.
