Dr. Ran Cheng is currently an Assistant Professor with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Southern University of Science and Technology, China. Previously, he was a Research Fellow with the School of Computer Science, University of Birmingham, U.K. He received the PhD degree in computer science from the University of Surrey, U.K. His main research interest is Artificial/Computational Intelligence based learning, modeling and optimization. Dr. Cheng has published over 40 research papers, including 15 top IEEE Transactions papers (e.g. IEEE TEVC and IEEE TCYB), six ESI top 1% highly cited papers and one ESI top 1‰ hot paper. In total, his publications have received more than 2200 citations. He is the founding chair of IEEE Symposium on Model Based Evolutionary Algorithms (IEEE MBEA). He serves as an Associated Editor for IEEE Access (2018-), and the Editorial Board Members of Applied Soft Computing (2018-) and Complex & Intelligent Systems (2017-). He the recipients of the IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation Outstanding Paper Award (2018), the IEEE CIS Outstanding PhD Dissertation Award (2019) and the IEEE Computational Intelligence Magazine Outstanding Paper Award (2020).
