Professor Department of Biomedical Engineering Research Group
Professor Wu Changfeng, received a Ph.D. in physics from the Changchun Institute of Optics and Mechanics, the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2004, a Ph.D. in chemistry from Clemson University in 2008, and went to the University of Washington for postdoctoral research in 2008. He has been a professor of Jilin University since 2011 and a professor of Southern University of Science and Technology since 2016. He has successively received funding from the National Natural Science Outstanding Youth Fund, the National Natural Science Foundation Key Project, and the Shenzhen Peacock Team Project. The main research directions are biophotonics, molecular probes and imaging techniques. Co-published in important journals such as J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Adv. Mater., Nano Lett., ACS Nano, Laser & Photonics Rev., Opt. Lett. SCI has included more than 150 papers , SCI journals have cited more than 12,000 times.

Changfeng Wu completed his Physics PhD in 2004 at Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics, and Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He earned his PhD in Chemistry at the group of Prof. Jason McNeill from Clemson University in 2008. He then carried out postdoctoral research with Prof. Daniel T. Chiu at University of Washington. He started his independent research at Jilin University in 2012. He joined the faculty in Department of Biomedical Engineering at Southern University of Science and Technology. His research is focused on the development of fluorescent probes, biosensors, spectroscopic and imaging techniques for biomedical applications. He has published more than 120 peer-reviewed papers with a total citations of ~6000 times.

4. Photophysics of semiconducting polymers and lanthanide materials;
5. Design/construction of spectroscopic and imaging instrumentation.

The Department currently has 11 core faculty members, including one Chinese Central Government “The Outstanding Youth of Ten Thousand Talents Plan” expert, one “Thousand Talent Program” expert, one The National Science Foundation of China “Distinguished Young Scholars”, three “Young Thousand Talent Program” experts, one Outstanding Young Scholars of National Science Foundation of China. SUSTech BME receives strong support from the BME at Columbia University and has formed its own undergraduate curricula based on the BME curricula of Columbia University. The Department shall cultivate students at bachelor, master and PhD levels in collaboration with the BME at Columbia University.
